Living abroad can be incredibly educational, exciting and personally enlightening. At the same time, there are so many downsides and frustrating experiences that I often wonder whether its worth it or not. Fortunately, the inter-web shortens the gap between “home” and “passed out in a kebab spot 5,000 km from the nearest relative.” Still, I feel totally disconnected from ‘popular culture’ – I don’t know what catchy, but terrible songs are playing on the radio, or which immigrant group Lou Dobbs is currently condemning. I do, however, see plenty of movie trailers on the inter-web and keep a list of movies to see when I return – this is one of them:
Medicine for Melancholy is a story about two “black hipsters” (not named Mikey or Chuck English) in San Francisco after a one night stand.
“I hate this city but I love this city…San Francisco is beautiful, you shouldn’t have to be upper middle class to be part of it.”
You know, I guess my life is its own study abroad because I always feel disconnected…wait a minute, I forgot I’m from another planet.
